What the metabolism does
Metabolism turns food into fuel. In your clinic it turns visits into money: pricing, billing, collections, and the cash flow that keeps everything running. A healthy metabolism means each visit is priced above what it costs to deliver, bills go out cleanly, payments come in, and cash is available when you need it.
A weak metabolism is the classic trap: busy but broke. The schedule is full, the team is stretched, and yet cash is always tight. Often it is because services are priced below their true cost, or collections leak, unpaid balances, missed follow-ups, discounts nobody tracked. You are working hard and feeding a body that cannot convert the effort into fuel.
We call this margin necrosis. The tissue looks alive from the outside, full waiting room, plenty of activity, but the margin underneath is dying. The dangerous part is that volume hides it. You assume more patients will fix the cash problem, when more patients at a loss only deepens it.
